The dread C - Cancer - is the last word anyone wants to hear whether it be for themselves, a loved one, a connection, and even a stranger. While treatment is better than ever before, the volume of people battling cancer is also higher than ever before. To make matters worse, cancer is affecting more and more children, teens, and young adults. No longer do you have to be old to get the dreaded C diagnosis. 

I have personally felt the heartbreak of cancer in more ways than I would like to believe, but that is the reality we live in. The most difficult experience being with my beloved maternal grandmother - she was truly an angel and to see the pain inflicted by her diagnosis was one of the worse things I have ever witnessed. While she had a long and beautiful life, to see her suffer in her final years was a daily pain my family and I carried with us. She passed in August of 2020. 

Just as Nana would do, I try and find blessings in everything around me. While the Covid era was a lot of things - the lock downs gave me time with my grandmother and family in rural Kentucky that I would have never had at that phase of my career. I had the opportunity to be right by Nana's side in her final months and assist my mother in caring for her. While difficult - it was a time I look back on fondly, with pride, and full of JOY seeing her so happy to be surrounded by family. 

This experience plus many others has emboldened me to get involved with the Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer alongside my colleagues at EdgarAgents (EA). May 13th - 20th the EMF network will be Going the Distance to Fight Cancer.
