In Honor of Uncle PJ

Saturday 16th May
This year, I am participating in the EMF Distance Challenge in honor of my uncle, PJ Banks, who passed away last week after a long battle with cancer. In lieu of my EMF t-shirt, I’m wearing one with the Northrop T-38 Talon, one of the primary training jets used by the Air Force. Following Uncle PJ’s initial assignment flying B-52s, he became an instructor pilot out of Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma as part of the 5th Flying Training Squadron “Spittin’ Kittens.” Eventually becoming commander of his squadron, Uncle PJ flew the T-38 for several years, training the next generation of Air Force fighter pilots. His calm demeanor, patient teaching style, and witty humor made him popular and respected among his students and fellow officers. I was fortunate to visit Oklahoma in 2014 to witness his final flight before his retirement from the Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel. Thank you to all who donated to bring us closer to finding a cure for this destructive disease. My family and I truly appreciate the support as we navigate this devastating loss.

Expect Miracles Foundation supports cancer research and provides resources for individuals and families impacted by cancer. Their work helps fund progress toward better treatments while also assisting those facing the challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis.

Cancer has had a profound impact on my family, which makes this cause especially personal to me. I’m participating in the Distance Challenge to support Expect Miracles’ mission and contribute to a cause that affects so many families, including my own.
