Birthday Challenge: 58 miles in 24 hours

Please join me in going the distance to leave cancer behind! Once again, I’ll be participating in the annual EMF Distance Challenge and would love your support by either joining my team, Team Hope, or supporting my goal of raising $25,000 for Expect Miracles Foundation. 

I just had my 58^th birthday, so for this year’s Distance Challenge, I am doing a birthday challenge – to run 58 miles in 1 day in support of EMF’s mission of hope for the cancer community.

This year, I am dedicating my Distance Challenge to Abby, the daughter of a dear college friend, and her family. For the past 7 months, Abby has been fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia at Dana-Farber.  Abby had just graduated from college and was days away from starting graduate school to become an ESL teacher when she was suddenly diagnosed with cancer.  She has undergone grueling treatments, and thankfully, with just one more chemo cycle to complete, is in remission! Through it all, Abby and her family have faced cancer with strength, determination, and love (and a healthy helping of tears, swears, and humor). They have been a phenomenal inspiration to me!

The EMF Distance Challenge is a virtual “get active” campaign to bring hope to those impacted by cancer. From May 13 through May 20, participants walk, run or bike, or any other activity, as many miles as they want to leave cancer behind. Fundraising is optional, but encouraged. 100% of participant-raised donations go to support EMF’s cancer research funds at Dana-Faber and Memorial Sloan Kettering, and EMF’s SAMFund financial assistance grants for young adult cancer survivors.

I invite you to join me in going the distance in the fight again cancer by doing one of the following:

1.    Join my Distance Challenge team, Team Hope, by going to the Team Hope page and click on “Join Us.” The registration fee is $50, which is a $25 donation and gets you the official EMF Distance Challenge t-shirt. The $50 will go to your fundraising total. The first 10 people to use the promo code TeamHope25 will get their registration fee waived because I will cover your fee. Visit the FAQ page for more info, or simply reach out to me. You can also set up your own team if you want! It doesn’t matter how far you go as long as you go the Distance! Join us!

2.    Support EMF’s mission to bring hope to the cancer community by making a donation to my Distance Challenge fundraiser that is meaningful to you. My goal is to raise $25,000. 100% of your donation goes to support EMF's three funds.
